Jim Hancock Family

December 2009

Hi Family and Friends,

It has been nice to see many of you or communicate with you via reunions and face book. Nan wrote and told Elder Hancock that she was on face book and that it rocked. He wrote back and said “Mom, you are scaring me.” Good.

We had a fun family reunion with Jim’s Mom’s family (Westovers) this year in Salt Lake. Jim and Nan took a trip back to Cincinnati this summer. Jim had a meeting there. We hit Church and USA historical sites going and coming. Nan got to stay with her friend, Beth, who lives near Columbus. Saw and held a firefly for the first time. Had a fun campout with the kids near Anderson Ranch by Mountain Home.

Jim is still a financial planner. He bought the business in Feb. That has been a real challenge, but it is working out. Nan is slowly learning, under duress, some of the ropes of the business. Jim still travels. He spends a lot of time in Boise with business. He stays with Shaun or Cheri and their families. Right now he is the Scout Committee Chairman and Youth Sports Coach. He also substitutes in Sunday School a lot.

Nan is still the Relief Society President. Keeping visiting teaching straight and functioning is a real chore. Seems like people move in and out way too much. But she will only get the blessings if she does the calling with a willing heart so she will quit complaining. She is busy working on the books and setting up appointments in Jim’s business. She also babysits the twins a couple of days a week. She loves going to concerts and plays.

Ryan got married in Oct. (10-10-09). He knew Jenna Peterson when he was a teenager. Our families were in the same stake. She added two grandchildren to our growing list—Meisje (8) and Brixton (6). They live in Rigby, ID. We get to see Joshua (8) and Peter (6) a couple of times a month.

Shaun and Julie live in Caldwell, Idaho, with their 3 children, Keelie (5), Bailee (4) and Jonas (20 months). Julie owns a property management business and Shaun owns a carpet and tile cleaning business. Julie is the Relief Society monthly meeting coordinator. They stay plenty busy with their yard, children, work, and church.

JaNan and Mike and girls, Clara (2) and Carlie (2) live here in Idaho Falls. Mike works for Sportsman’s Warehouse and JaNan works part time for Staker Floral. They are active in their ward where JaNan is Primary Secretary and Mike is a Primary teacher.

Cheri and Aron just bought a house in Meridian, ID. We helped them move there in October. Their two children are Brock (6) and Bella (3). Cheri still works for Shilo Inn and Aron manages the body shop for Lithia. Cheri is the Relief Society monthly meeting coordinator.

Celeste and Shaun and Hyde (15 mo.) still live in Filer. Celeste is assistant manager at the new Hilton Garden Inn in Twin Falls. Shaun still works at Blip Printers. Celeste is an advisor in the YW program.

Steven lives in IF and is working at Target. He went to CSI in Twin Falls last spring and spent the summer in Caldwell helping Shaun with his business. He still loves playing basketball and gets with groups about 4 times a week. He is the Sacrament coordinator in the Singles Branch.

Jimmy is on his last leg of his mission in Fresno, CA. He is in Clovis right now. He is trying to get a one month extension. He has really enjoyed his mission and companions. He will be home next March or April.

We had a pretty good garden this year. The black plastic really helps keep the weeds down. Because of the late spring, I ripened most of the tomatoes in the garage. And we mowed the lawn once every 3 weeks whether it needed it or not. Sure miss the kids being home.

We are so thankful for family, extended family, and our friends. We are grateful for the gospel and all the blessings we receive every day. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Love, The Jim Hancock family
