Merry Christmas from the Evelyn Woodland Family

Greetings from Gerwin and Evelyn in “wintry” Twin Falls, Idaho

We have had a fair amount of snow and I am enjoying it to the maximum this year, because Gerwin has Dementia and is pretty weak physically so we have become home bound and so have the blessing of standing at the window and watching the snow fall and the neighbors slip and slid in the cold and we are warm and secure in our home. Old age may not be all it is cracked up to be (the golden years are laced with lead) but even it has its up side, like living in Idaho and enjoying the cold and snow but not being a part of it.

The last year has had it ups and downs, but all in all it has been a good year. Our children and our brothers and sisters as well as many friends have supported us in the trial of Gerwin’s failing health and as we learn more about the “wonderful” condition called Dementia, we can have so much more sympathy for those who have experienced it before us and much more empathy for those to whom it is yet to come.

We have been in Twin Fall, Idaho now for two years, and though I miss St. George, Utah, it is so good to spend time with our brothers and sisters and our two children that live close. All the rest we keep in touch with by phone.

We are so grateful for the birth and life of our Savior Jesus Christ and the example he set for us to live by. Knowing that he is helping us carry the burden that is placed before us makes all things possible and most days we can even do it with a smile.

As Gerwin’s health declines, and he experiences the head ache that is his daily companion, when he goes to bed at night and we share a good night hug, he says, ”I will not be here in the morning” and I say, “If Heavenly Father says so”. On that note I would like to share with you one of my favorite poems written by President Gordon B. Hinckley.

What Is This Thing Man Calls Death?
What is this thing that man calls death.
This quiet passing in the night?
‘Tis not the end but genesis
Of better worlds and greater light.
O God, touch Thor my aching heart.
And calm my troubled, haunting fears.
Let hope and faith, transcendent, pure,
Give strength and peace beyond my tears.
There is no death, but only change,
With recompense for vict’ry won.
The gift of Him who loved all men,
The Son of God, the Holy One.
Know, with us, there are better days to come. May we all enjoy the blessings the next year will bring.

Request for pictures

Dear Peterson Family Members:

This year marks Harvey's 80th birthday, and we are looking for any and all pictures we can find of Harvey from any time period in his life - particularly his birth through young adult period. We would like to get any pictures of him that are available - if he is in a picture with other family members, friends, etc, we would like a copy of that, too. If you could look through photographs you have or can remember and either let me know you have them or e-mail them to me, I would appreciate it. We would like to get this by the end of July, if possible.

Thank you!

Lana Visser (Harvey's oldest)

Family Update

Hi family-

Wanted to let you know that our youngest, Jimmy, got home from his mission to Fresno, CA on April 21. He had gotten a 6 week extension. We picked him up at 6:20 p.m. (Plane was late), rushed him to the Stake President to be released, listened to his report to the high council, had a Reed’s Dairy ice cream, talked to him while he unpacked and packed and then said so long the next morning at 7 a.m. when he got in the car with his brother-in-law, Mike, and headed for BYUI. He had already missed the 1st two days of school. He did come home that weekend to give his report and since he is close he have seen him a couple of times since, but I still miss him. He loved his mission, the people, his comps, the mission President, and even the crazy people on the streets. He had lots of success and taught many new elders how to be successful also.
Our daughter and hubby, JaNan and Mike Brown are expecting another baby in Dec. They nurse is pretty sure there is only one baby this time.
